Description

This pin features the portrait of Renaissance sculptor and artist Michelangelo taken from the frieze in the Great Hall at Two Temple Place.

When William Waldorf Astor commissioned Two Temple Place in 1892, he filled it with the characters both real and imagined that he most admired. His main office, now the Great Hall, has a frieze featuring over 50 carved portraits of people from Shakespeare plays such as Ophelia and Juliet, as well as people from history including Pocahontas, Queen Elizabeth I and Michelangelo.

The frieze was created by craftsman Nathaniel Hitch and his studio who were responsible for the decorative scheme of the room.

Part of our exclusive Two Temple Place range, this pin was designed and created in collaboration with Amber Joy Studio.
